Dysentery Dandies Take 1st Place at Wagon Train Showdown Fundraiser

On Thursday, January 25, Dubuque Esports League held their first annual Wagon Train Showdown, an Oregon Trail fundraising event to support youth esports programs. To say that participants had a blast reliving their grade school computer days was an understatement.

Teams of 4 went head to head to blaze the Oregon Trail! Each member in the team had a maximum of one hour to lead their wagon from Independence, Missouri, to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The goal was to get across the Oregon Trail without dying in the fastest way possible. We took an average of the team's highest and lowest times to complete the journey. If they died within the first 15 minutes of playing they were able to restart.

The winning team was Dysentery Dandies with an average time of 14 minutes and 28 seconds. The next closed time was held by The Tales of Wells Fargo team with an average time of 37 minutes and 15 seconds. The Dysentery Dandies won a cooler filled with supplies, goodies and a $50 gift card from Kwik Star, a prize package valued at $200.

We also awarded the following prizes:

Best Dressed for the Trail: Our Wagon Runs on Wine

Wagon Leader who died with the most dignity: Ryan Fitch

Best Family Backstory: The Tales of Wells Fargo

We were able to raise more than $1300 to support youth esports programs in the Tri-States! A special shout out to Bob & Lou’s, Kwik Star and Wild Indigo Creative for donations to our prizes. Also, we’d like to recognize our board member, Tom Wartick for his support in getting all our tech ready for the evening. Thank you to everyone that attended! We look forward to hosting the event again!
